🌲 9 prompts and 1 Notion template to plan goals for the new year
Good morning,
I hope you are spending a lovely time with your friends and family during this holiday season. Don’t forget to take pictures or videos to remember these happy times together, you’ll be happy to look back at them in the future.
I’m excited to have a few days off next week. I started planning what I want to focus on next quarter. My prompts are inspired from Ali Abdaal’s “Anti-wasteman” plan. Here’s the questions I’m trying to answer for each goal:
Purpose
What do you want? (General)
Why? (Purpose)
What is your goal? (As close to SMART as possible)
Failure and success
How surprised would you be if you failed? (Out of 10)
What would be your reasons for failing?
What would be ways of succeeding regardless of those reasons?
Action
What is a habit that will get you towards your goal?
What are some resources or people available to help you?
What are some points you could act on right now?
I’m using a custom Notion database, here is the link to the template if you want to try it for yourself. Consider it a humble Christmas gift! 🎁
Here’s how the database works:
The table view allows you to quickly view or add goals.
The gallery view shows them in cards with the main info only.
The board view allows you to prioritise if you have a bunch of ideas and only want to focus on a few at a time.
I added a couple of examples of my real goals to help you use it. Have fun preparing for the new year!
Best,
Lou
💬 Languages
🇰🇷 Korean
I’ve had more time to study a bit of grammar lately. I’m trying to balance different activities with matching frequencies. I haven’t found a great app to do this, I’m still using a basic habit tracker. I’ll try to adjust this so it’s both challenging and achievable. Here’s what I have so far:
Listening (2/week)
Grammar (1/week)
Reading (3/month)
Speaking (2/month)
Writing (1/week)
🇮🇹🇩🇪🇳🇱 Other languages
I’m trying to find a good routine to maintain my learnt languages. The main thing I want to do is listening. Here’s what I planned so far:
Listening to Italian (3/month)
Listening to German (3/month)
Listening to Dutch (2/month)
✍️ Design
I read an interesting article on different roles in game design. I didn’t know all of them! The author is a passionate GUI designer.

📱 App
I make my own workout programs on the basic Tabata Timer (for Android and iOS). I love a simple app that does exactly what it says, so I even paid for the premium version - a convenient lifetime purchase.
🎬 Video
The egg video from What I’ve Learned is finally out. It confirms that you can eat crazy amounts fo eggs without any negative side effects!
✍️ Quote of the Week
And watch what [he]’s about to do next - this is what separates champions from all the rest.
