✅ Infinite to-do list? Here's how I keep it manageable.
Low effort, small doses to keep you going
Dear reader,
I use the nerdiest ways to organise myself at work - with all the complicated dashboards and databases. I balance and prioritise dozens of tasks on different projects with twice as many people. It requires a lot of discipline and focus, but hey, I’m paid for it - and I love my job.
However, when I get home, I like to keep it simple. I don’t want to waste my energy on complicated software. And it works so well, it’s ridiculous. Let me break it down to you.
I have two widgets on my home page: one list, one calendar. I can fill them in a couple of taps. The challenge? Actually getting things done, so the list stays small and manageable. And I found a killer technique that works 100% of the time.
Journaling. Take every item on your list, and ask yourself:
Why is it still here? Does it matter?
Can you get it done? Why not?
What would make it easier?
You don’t like writing? Fine. Say it out loud. Use the dictation on your phone, so your thoughts get stored somewhere. You probably won’t read it once you’re done, but it will keep you in check and on task.
This technique works every time I get stuck. I don’t do it every week, just when I need to get a fresh start and clear my notes. Do you end up with endless notes and lists? Try it, and let us know what you think!
Remember: it’s winter, it’s normal to feel behind. Take it slow, sleep enough, drink water, get moving - a walk, a stretch, anything to work on that inertia.
Have a lovely week.
Best,
Lou

Work started to get overwhelming really fast. I had my tasks in Notion but it wasn't until I took a basic journal and started doing the true bullet journal method that I've bee able to stay on track.
I keep it pretty simple by drawing out a calendar and adding in upcoming events. On a new page I write down a to do list of tasks for the month and leave space to add more as the month progresses. In the finally section I write down the date and tasks I want to complete for that day and events. Once they're completed I cross out my bullet and if I couldn't get to the task, I mark it with an arrow.
I was so surprised at how effective this has been especially since when I used to BUJO for school I did my own method. I've been wondering if something like this would work for me in my personal life and so I may give it a try in my Hobonichi HON during 2024.
Thanks for sharing your tips! I think I'll also do something similar 😊
