🎯 Q1 Language goals review
Studying 4 languages in 3 months
Good morning,
We’re already in April, and just like that the first quarter of 2023 is over. I cannot believe how fast it went by. I would love to introduce my whole system for goal setting, but for now let’s go through my language goals review for these first three months. Here’s what I worked on the past 3 months:
🇰🇷 Build a solid Korean study routine
→ Check one Korean related task every day
I did well! Giving myself the freedom of wanting what I want to practise on a given day was very encouraging.
→ Study 12 grammar lessons (4 /month)
I studied even more and ended up finishing the whole grammar course (Talk To Me In Korean Level 7).
→ Finish reading beginner book (4/month)
I finished just as planned!
🎧 Maintain learnt languages
→ Listen to one of 3 learnt languages each week (Italian, Dutch, German)
I really built a habit of listening to all of these languages on a regular basis.
→ Keep vocabulary flashcards up to date
I added a lot of Korean flashcards, so I was a bit more reasonable with other languages. I still added notes when I came across interesting sentences!
→ Watch 1 long-form content each month
I saved a bunch of Dutch documentaries, German TV shows and Italian podcasts, so this worked out great.
I’m really happy with the progress I made. I’m still planning my goals for the new quarter, I’ll probably be working on it when you read this entry. I really want to share my process for goal setting with my paper journal and Notion database, but I’m taking one step at a time.
Did you set goals for your personal projects? How are you doing so far?
Best,
Lou
💬 Languages
This month was really hard for me to study. I was busy with work and family events, and got minor health issues in the meantime. I was in a bit of a rut, but I’m honestly motivated to get back on track! I’m proud that I didn’t give up and still studied a little every day - even when it got hard.

📚 Book
I listened to my first Quebec polar. It was absurd and disturbing but a really interesting read by Chrystine Brouillet, the book is called “Chère Voisine”.
🎬 Video
I watched the last episode of Leah’s Fieldnotes Sleepover Series and got very moved by the honesty of the guest - Kaiti Yoo. It’s comforting to listen to other women dealing with similar experiences. This was a very relaxing video with a podcast vibe.
✍️ Quote of the Week
You can be sure that everyone you meet is driven by two primal urges: the need to feel safe and secure, and the need to feel in control.

I really like the way you plan your quarterly goals. The reasons for failing and reasons for success really help you figure out what you need to achieve your goals. Congrats on being consistent with language learning even though you were busy and experiencing health issues.
Good luck in the next quarter! :)
