I find 20 minutes way too short to get into a focused/flow state. What is your opinion on that?

I had this exact issue. Turns out most of my work can be split into shorter, more actionable tasks, and I can get a lot done in 20 min.

I had the impression that I needed longer chunks of time for writing, designing and other creative tasks. However, I noticed that with more frequent breaks, I have no issue getting into focused state as soon as the timer starts, and coming back to the work in progress after 5 minutes.

Keep in mind I have issues with hyper focusing: I easily get absorbed in tasks and end up burning myself out for hours of intense focus.

20-5 is the sweet spot for me today, but it hasn't always been. I used to do 45-15 in university, but I find I get more done with shorter bursts now.

What kind of tasks are you trying to work on? 😊

Yeah, I think smaller intervals definitely make sense then.

Interesting, cause I can kind of relate to that hyper-focusing (in a way). I’m studying mathematics and the really hard thing about it is taking a break and don’t letting the ambition take over. Because often you get stuck in a problem and what really helps then is just going away.

I think I’ll try out shorter intervals, maybe it works for those kind of problems too🤔

I remember when I was in engineering school, I would spend hours on problems, but I'd usually find the solution after a break! I used to think I had to work for as long as possible, turns out it usually doesn't work for me.

Let me know what you think if you give it a try! 😊
