🃏 Yet another reason to choose Anki over fancy apps
How I set it up to study without looking at my screen
Good morning,
I recently customised my Anki app gesture shortcuts, and it is a game changer. Now I can study with my hands in my pockets, without even looking at the screen. Here's what I set up:
👇 Swipe down to replay the audio (it works for both the question and the answer)
🫰 Tap once anywhere to reveal the answer
🫲 Swipe left to mark as “need to review”
🫱 Swipe right to mark as “known”
🙌 Double tap to edit the card (for a typo or a precision)
This made the experience seem less and I cannot believe I waited for years before doing this. No more missclicks!
You can customise it yourself in "settings - gestures" on Ankidroid. I cannot confirm whether or not it works the same on iOS.
Do you also like customising your study tools?
Best,
Lou

I tried Victoria’s (The Study Notebook) study planner! It’s so cute and convenient. I had a busy week, so I didn’t do nearly as much as I wish I had. It’s a good way to keep me accountable and see how I can improve my time management for the next few weeks. Thank you for sharing!

I am using tofulearn.com to learn my first Chinese radicals. The android app isn’t compatible with my phone, but the web app works well enough to practise. It’s completely free and easy to customise.

Zoe.languages released a new video about learning Mandarin Chinese - just in time! I got a lot of interesting resources from it. I didn’t know Chinese radicals could be so useful from the beginning, so I’ll focus on learning them next week.
✍️ Quote of the Week
People who devote their lives to studying something often come to believe that the object of their fascination is the key to understanding everything.

I liket the way you're using the planner! It's giving me new ideas like adding icons instead of text if I need to save space. Btw, I didn't make the planner! It's just one I liked and decided to use this year :)
It's nice to see someone else starting out to learn Mandarin. Are you using the HSK 1 textbook?
Do the dots represent how many times each week you plan to do a certain activity? I could probably give that a try but a lot of what I do ends up being daily so it'd be redundant 😅
